Advice for Trail Runners: If you're looking for maximum grip and comfort, the Salomon Men's Speedcross 6 in the Black/Cress Green/Transparent colourway are a great choice.
Underfoot Feel
You should feel very confident running on muddy terrain and wet ground in the Salomon Speedcross 6. That's because the Contagrip outsole features deep 5 mm lugs. Additionally, the outsole construction prevents mud clogging up between the lugs. This means your grip should be just as good at the end of a run as it is at the start.
Unlike most deep lugged trail running shoes, the Speedcross 6 has a thick midsole. While EnergyCell doesn't feel overly soft, it should feel very protective and comfortable for long runs. It should also feel supportive in the arch and midfoot area.
Upper Fit
In order to keep your feet secure and stable on uneven terrain, the Salomon Speedcross 6 features a SensiFit upper. Even though the upper is flexible, it cradles the foot and delivers a precise fit. Salomon's trademark Quicklace system compliments this supportive upper. If you're wondering, this lacing system stops the laces coming undone and distributes pressure more evenly than traditional laces.
Finally, an abrasion-resistant ripstop fabric reduces the likelihood of debris entering the shoes.
Ideal Run Type
We recommend running in the Salomon Men's Speedcross 6 on muddy and technical trail terrain. That's because they feature one of the most aggressively lugged outsoles available. This obviously makes them a great choice for steep terrain too.
Due to the high level of cushioning, the Speedcross 6 are suited to long distances and big days out. However, while they'll feel comfortable, we would be cautious about wearing them for lots of hard packed ground. This is down to the fact that lugs may wear down faster than shallower lugged options.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
